At 18|8 Brookhaven, our mission is to help the men of Brookhaven and the greater Atlanta, GA area look their absolute best, every single day. We’re proud to provide world-class haircuts, shaves, and other grooming services to achieve that goal – but we also want to help you improve your look outside the barbershop. Exercise is vital to both health and how you look, but exercise can affect more than just the body. In fact, there’s even a relationship between exercise and your hair.
How Exercise Affects Hair
Generally speaking, the health of your hair is deeply intertwined with the health of the rest of your body. If you’re taking good care of your body, eating right, and exercising, chances are that your hair will be as happy as it can be – but it will suffer if your body does. To that end, lack of exercise can hurt your hair. At an extreme, poor health can harm circulation, particularly in the capillaries, which are the microscopic blood vessels that directly oxygenate the body. Capillaries provide oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicles, so poor circulation can cause hair loss.
On the other end of the spectrum, too much exercise can also damage hair. Excessive exercise can cause temporary hair loss due to the stress it puts on your body – so while going to the gym is a great idea, it’s best to do so in moderation. In general, the moral of the story here is balance. Take care of your body by eating well and exercising regularly, but don’t overdo it. If your body is happy and healthy, your hair will be too.
